About Denis Linehan

Denis Linehan is a Fort Edward native, longtime Saratoga racing enthusiast and former English teacher. He taught for 38 years in Toms River, New Jersey, while continuing a love of writing that began at age seven, when he collected his grandfather’s stories on an old Smith Corona typewriter. His first novel, The Shadows of August, gathers 13 linked stories inspired by the people, atmosphere and sense of possibility surrounding the Saratoga racing season. Contrition, his second novel, turns to a sweeping World War II story shaped by love, survival, identity and moral consequence. A former standout amateur pitcher, Linehan brings the same sense of movement and renewal to his fiction: when one season or dream ends, another begins.
